SFRco is a small company with big passion for surfing and a vision to have a full realm of fins for you to try. I grew up in Virginia Beach, VA and was always at the beach as a kid. I remember my mom was always bringing me to the beach one summer and a few years later my dad introduced me to surfing. As I grew older I shaped a few of my own boards and grew more interested in board design. I never thought about fins until I finally got a pair of the FCS Julian Wilson fins back in 2012. It was mind blowing feeling the difference back then in high school when I was becoming an okay surfer. To this day I have noticed a big difference in a board when a different fin is put in it. I was surfing my second handshape, a groveler, for a whole summer with standard plastic fins in. I thought the board worked great but really wanted to see what different fins did, more as an experiment than anything. I ended up getting the Futures Blacksticks fins and the board instantly livened up. It had a quicker response and a lot more speed through the turns in the small mushy VB waves. I have had a handful of more fins I have tried over the years all for different boards and all for different reasons. Still not nearly the amount as a pro...mainly because they get expensive when you want to have more than a few.
I kept coming to the same conclusion. What if the fin I got that I thought was good, still wasn't the best one? I kept wondering what all of the other fins feel like, do they all feel different or similar in other types of boards? Nowadays, there are so many fins to choose from and they all are made from different construction, conditions, and even different boards. Most of the time, if you live in a place like I do, we don't have waves everyday of the year. So whenever I bought fins, I wouldn't be able to tell how the fin really worked, or even if I gelled with the fin enough until a couple of sessions. Sometimes that was after the return policy ended (assuming I didn't scratch them). One day surfing with my best friend, we were talking about fins and the lightbulb went off. I said it would be so cool if there was a company that rented fins to you. It would ship to your door and you could try them out for a time and then ship them back. We just wanted to experiment with fins without breaking the bank.
So, Surf Fin Rental Company was born, where you can do just that. A place where you can select fins to rent for a week or a few that are shipped to your door. Your order also comes with a return label to ship back to SFRco to make it an easy rental. A place where you can experiment with dialing in your quiver because SFRco plans to continue to grow our fin collection. This is a company that understands who a regular surfer is because I am a regular surfer.
